Italian health facility migrates mission-critical systems from Citrix and Microsoft to Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization and Red Hat Enterprise Linux
RALEIGH, NC – August 30, 2010 – Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), the world’s leading provider of open source solutions, today announced that Policlinico San Marco, a health services provider in Italy, has standardized its mission-critical infrastructure on Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization and Red Hat Enterprise Linux. The organization migrated from Citrix XenServer on Microsoft Windows to the Red Hat combination on Dell servers to achieve heightened performance, security and scalability.
The combined Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization and Red Hat Enterprise Linux environment runs Policlinico San Marco’s infrastructure services, including email, instant messaging, IP telephony and Oracle databases, as well as high-end medical applications such as the management system for radiology. These services must be up and running at all times so as to deliver safe patient care. Oxilion’s virtual datacenter service enables its customers to configure networks, storage and systems in the same way as with a physical datacenter, but with the ease and convenience of doing so remotely, using a web-based portal. This is designed to deliver benefits typically associated with cloud computing, such as zero capital expenditure, “pay as you go” pricing and the elasticity to scale up or down to meet changing business requirements.

Solution: To develop a more flexible operating platform to build its distributed IT environment, Union Pacific is migrating to a Red Hat Enterprise Linux-based virtualized infrastructure to replace the mainframe.
